We had a great evening at our last meeting! Good discussion of "The Tower, The Zoo, and the Tortoise." Everyone liked it, but some felt it was hysterically funny, and others thought it was very dark. We all agreed that it would make a good movie - and it has some scenes that were very visual.
Our February selection is "The Charm School" by Nelson DeMille. This thriller of international espionage and political tension is set in contemporary Russia.
Our March selection is "Middlesex" by Jeffrey Eugenides. This story of Calliope Stephanides, a Greek/American who grows up in Detroit, begins with her family's move from Greece to a new life in the United States. The family's secrets make this a story which is hard to put down. This was the 2003 Pulitzer Prize winner, and an Oprah Book Club selection.
Our April selection will be "Killing Lincoln" by Bill O'Reilly. In addition to our readings, we will also be planning a screening of "Sarah's Key." Also, the movie "The Hunger Games" will be coming out on March 23rd, so we will be scheduling a trip to that.
We discussed reading "Murder At The Ingham County Fair" by a local author. We also discussed seeing the movie "Joseph and his Technicolor Dream Coat" as a group when the bible study group has finished its study of "The Red Tent".
Everyone is welcome to join us for any meeting. The February meeting will be at Benders’ on February 29th at 7pm.
Happy Reading!
